ReplyDeleteBy the way, I just saw your party suggestion and there is already a reception that's held right after the presentations. I don't know if that mattters or not...
ReplyDeleteHey, Aaron, I'm reading through what's coming due, and I see the comment, "Forward your advisor's comments on your draft..." What exactly would this be? On the entire paper? I've gotten editing suggestions, but I don't think that's what you're looking for.
ReplyDeleteJust read that as, "IF your advisor has commented on your draft recently, forward comments." It would be good practice to send them something around now, but those individual arrangements obviously vary.
ReplyDeleteHm... Okay, well I have some e-mails (those I haven't deleted completely from my mailbox) that I could forward.
ReplyDeleteFive Lessons Learned by Miyuki Nies (Am I right posting this here??)
ReplyDelete1 Do not expect the feedback from faculty mentor so soon.
2 Annotated bibliography is very useful to record & re-locate existing studies.
3 When you are stuck writing, read what other researchers say.
4 Learn the writing style/common vocabularies by reading researches within the discipline.
5 Writing center’s OWL (online writing lab) service is more useful and time-saving than face-to-face tutoring (to me).
Miyuki, you're a week early, but that's fine.
ReplyDeleteFive Lessons Learned
ReplyDelete1 Use the time line to keep yourself on track, it’s easy to fall behind on all the writing and rewriting….
2 As much as I HATED the annotated bibliography, it did help me organize my outline for the first draft.
3 If you get stuck writing just keep putting things down on paper, this will help you move in some kind of direction – good or bad.
4 Keep a “hard” or file copy of your best articles, journals, data – number them and then make a number note on your draft so you can refer back when necessary.
5 Have someone read your paper that is not an expert in the field - they will help you write to any audience.

Are these single quotes mentor comments?
ReplyDeleteAlso, the syllabus does say the five lessons learned is due tomorrow; but if you want them next week, that's fine too.
1. Don't put off what you can do today. Sometimes, I wish that I would have completed my studies when I was younger.
ReplyDelete2. But at times it is better to be patient, since the end result can be more suited to what you really want. It's the quote placement:
ReplyDeleteOn the one hand, performers and managers advocate relying on "war horse" compositions. Performers argue that it is in their own self interest to perform well-known pieces. Gilmore (1993) quotes a pianist as saying,, "When I play a contemporary work, [the reviewer] reviews the new piece. When I play something in the repertory [he] reviews me. Why shouldn't I play Mozart?" Not only do performers stay in the spotlight with repertory performances, but they save time as well.
Hey Jim, it's "integrate."
ReplyDeleteConsequently, in this ever-changing media environment, the conversation about ethics has become even more important in the face of unimaginable competition, globalization and the challenges posed by a slew of largely sensational content available for publication (Keeler, Brown & Tarpley, p. 53).

After I was accepted into the Green to Gold program to finish my final two years of college and earn my commission as an officer, I quickly began to realize the differences between training procedures within the enlisted track and training procedures for future officers within the ROTC program.
ReplyDeleteA pianist who spoke to Gilmore (1993) explained the risks for performers who depart from the standard repertory: "When I play a contemporary work, [the critic] reviews the new piece. When I play something in the repertory [he] reviews me." Given this focus on the performer's technical skill in most reviews of the war horse pieces, the pianist concludes, "Why shouldn't I play Mozart?"
